The 8 Best Indica Weed Strains For Relaxing

Are you having a stress-filled day? Or maybe you just want to kick back and relax with a few friends… Everybody and their mom knows that marijuana can be a great way to have a cozy time with your friends, and who doesn’t love getting high? With marijuana recently getting legalized (and decriminalized) in Thailand, it’s literally a whole new world there! This article will be focusing mainly on indica and indica-hybrid weed strains, as they are best known for their relaxing properties.

Whilst everyone’s brain chemistry is different, and at the end of the day – the effects will differ person to person, the different strains have distinct general effects. There are two different strains of weed: indica and sativa, and then you can also get hybrids (that sometimes lean towards one strain more than the other). You can find out more about this in-depth in our “What are THC and CBD” post!

Typically, indica-strain weed is known more for its relaxing and euphoric effects, whilst the sativa-strain weed is better known for its “energizing” effects, and boost to energy. This is severely simplifying things – but basically, if you want a relaxing high, you want indica! Here is our list of the top indica weed strains for relaxing. Just keep in mind, not all of these will be available in Thailand, or will need to be ordered as they’re “exotic”. Northern Lights

Aptly named Northern Lights, because that’s where your head will be after you smoke it! It’s an extremely popular strain and well-known for its relaxing effects. From easing your muscles, to even relaxing your mind! It’s particularly great if you’re having a rough time sleeping, and want to get a good rest.

Northern Lights was made by crossing Afghani and Thai strains of weed, and also known as “NL”. The NL-strain also provides a feeling of euphoria to most of its users, with some even reporting it helps with their mental health. This strain is famous for being pure indica, known for its strong buds, and fast flowering.

What causes the feeling of joy and relaxation in Northern Lights, is its high percentage of THC. Some of the other side effects may include an overwhelming  case of the munchies, and/or even a loss of appetite.

Katsu Kush

What sort of “best weed strains for relaxing” list would this be if we didn’t include Katsu Kush? Whilst it might not be a pure-indica strain, it’s one of the most popular because of the balanced blend of THC and CBD. It doesn’t leave you with the negative couch-bound side effects.

Katsu Kush is typically about 11% THC and equal amount CBD, so it balances out the effects well. You don’t get as strong psychedelic effects, but you still get the nice and relaxing high, whilst still being able to be productive. This strain of weed comes from the Hindu Kush supposedly.

Best of all, Katsu Kush also has a nice savory smell and flavor. Whilst it might not be for everyone, it also packs in a nice hint of sweetness that makes it easier to take. If you want an instant, mind-blasting strong high – this isn’t the weed strain for you, this is better for people wanting something more mellow and relaxing.

Mendo Breath

The Mendo Breath weed strain is aptly named after Mendocino, California – also where it originated from and is a flagship strain! Any cannabis fanatic worth their weed would know of this strain, it’s amazing taste, and relaxing side effects.

Mendo Breath is a blend between the Mendo Montage and OG Kush Breath—combining the best of both worlds. Just like its namesake, Mendocino, this bud will have you feeling like you’re surrounded by a nice beach-y breeze, and a boardwalk full of life. On top of that, it tastes great!

This indica-dominant strain has a very sweet taste, with some even claiming it tastes like vanilla or caramel. Don’t let that fool you, though, this has one of the most potent highs we’ve ever seen! This strain has THC levels going up to 20% high. It’ll rock your world – literally, and fill you with a high that’ll flood your entire body. This strain is also known to be popular for people suffering from conditions like insomnia, tension, headaches, or even just general pain.

Strawberry Snow Cone

Want to set a nice, relaxed atmosphere – but don’t want to sleep and get knocked out? If this sounds great to you, we recommend the Strawberry Snow Cone! It isn’t as potent as some of the other strains we have on our best weed strains for relaxing list, and will leave you with a nice buzz and body high.

The THC content in this strain can range from anywhere between 15% to 25% on more premium crops. The best part of the Strawberry Snow Cone is its sweet aroma and taste. It’s flavorful and really earns the apt title, Strawberry! The Strawberry Snow Cone is a sativa-based strain, and will leave you feeling mellow – but at the same time, chatty and hyped! It’s perfect for social events.

When it comes to medicinal use and stress-relief, this strain is also handy. It can even help with general anxiety or stress. However, if you want something for heavier hitting stress or pain management, there are better strains for that.

Girl Scout Cookies

Don’t let its adorable imagery and name fool you! Girl Scout Cookies are the real deal, and will hit you with a high like no other! This strain consists of Durban Poison and OG Kush, allowing it to hit THC levels unknown to (wo)man! It hits up to 28%, which is crazy levels.

Girl Scout Cookies are also sometimes known as Berner Cookies or Berner’s Cookies. It’s quickly become a staple strain in the cannabis industry, and for good reason. Unlike its parent strain, OG Kush, it ditches the earth-like, spicy aroma and taste. Instead, it opts for a more sweet aroma, that just grows sweeter and sweeter!

Combine this with its high THC levels, and it’s a killer. Girl Scout Cookies are ultra-powered, and will leave you in a fit of giddiness! It gives you a high that’ll leave you anywhere from laughing for hours, to filled with creative energy.

Many people also use Girl Scout Cookies as a pain relief, to help with any muscle or joint issues. It’s also commonly used as a stress reliever, to take the edge off a hard day. It’ll throw you into a nice relaxed mood, and if you take enough – a good night’s sleep.

OG Kush

Sometimes known as just “Kush” or “Premium OG Kush”, the OG Kush strain is probably the most recognizable and widely used in the world! It has a rich history, dating back to almost 30 years ago, first being cultivated in Florida.

If you’ve smoked weed, you’ve more than likely had a taste of the OG Kush. Sometimes, the original just can’t be beat! It features the iconic green design, and has a balanced composition of sativa/indica qualities. It also has up to 26% of THC levels… No wonder why the strain is so loved!

OG Kush features a very overwhelmingly, earthy and spicy taste. It has woody overtones, but it’s so damn lovable. The high from OG Kush is a quick one, hitting you straight away! For most people, it comes packed with the munchies, a burst of energy, makes you chatty, and best of all – relaxed. That’s why we’re here, right? To find the best weed strains for relaxing.

Whether you’re looking to smoke for a social occasion, unwind after a stressful day, or even just to put your appetite in gear – OG Kush has you covered. It is one of the most versatile strains and easy to find!

Granddaddy Purple

The Granddaddy Purple may as well be called the Granddaddy of all indica-dominant weed strains for relaxing! It is given the name due to its purple color, and is one of the most recognizable ‘purple’ strain – especially in the US!

This strain was created all the way back in 2003, when legend Ken Estes set out to create an indica-hybrid by combining the Purple Urkle and Big Bud. Granddaddy Purple combines the best qualities of both to deliver a high-THC and low-CBD experience.

Granddaddy Purple features a beautiful purple color, with tinges of orange hairs shining through. It gives it a very exotic look – and don’t worry, it has as much substance as it does style. It provides a fast-hitting high, that eventually settles into a nice, smooth buzz. It’s perfect if you want fast acting, but also a mellow experience

Users have reported that it’s also great for pain relief, and even for treating conditions such as depression and insomnia! However, keep in mind, mileage may vary. Everybody’s brain chemistry is different, and a strain that might help aid someone’s symptoms, might not for you. That being said – it’s still worth giving it a shot! Grab your bong and get smoking.

Ice Cream Cake

If you want flavorful and sweet, go for Ice Cream Cake! It’s an indica-dominant strain, that comes from a hybrid of Wedding Cake and Gelato #33. This strain also lives up to its name, providing an ice cream cake reminiscent taste. It’s filled with hints of vanilla, mixed with dough-like goodness!

The flavor and scent isn’t the only thing to write home about too – it packs a punch with a strong high that’ll leave you couch-bound for better or worse! Ice Cream Cake hits THC levels of mid 20s, making it one of the more potent on this list, with CBD levels at near zero!

This is what gives the Ice Cream Cake title a double meaning. Not only does it taste like one, but it’ll leave your body and mind like one too! You’ll slowly feel yourself melting away, as your overwhelmed with a sense of calmness and tranquility. It’s said that the amazing flavors can also be a good way to kick-start the munchies and help people with low appetites.

As with any strain of weed, or drug in general – what works for someone else might not for you. We also aren’t professionals – if you’re seeking help with finding a cannabis strain to alleviate pain, or even aid with mental health, talk to a doctor! Medicinal marijuana is now legal in Thailand, and health professionals are happy to help you find one that works.
